Wilson Media Day
This is a pic I took yesterday after Maddison and I finished our first large scale production job running the three-day AVP Media Weekend event for Wilson Volleyball. I took the picture because it was a pretty monumental moment that I knew I’d want to capture and remember years down the road from now. It’s funny how life works, how one small twist of fate can have this butterfly effect and you find yourself in a place you never even really considered dreaming about because it just wasn’t an option. I am all about the REFRAME, sometimes even to a fault, but in every bad situation there is always going to be a little good that can be extracted. Three years ago I broke my hand during the first tournament of the year at the AVP Huntington Beach Open. It is pretty hard to reframe a near-season-ending injury, however during that idle time we came up with the idea to start a YouTube channel. If I don’t break my hand that tournament, I don’t think I pick up that camera, I don’t think we would have started the YouTube channel, and I don’t think I would have discovered that my true passion really lies in video production. Fast-forward to the past 72 hours and we are running Wilson Volleyball’s Media Day production… Day 1 felt like I was going into the AVP Qualifier I was so nervous. And although the stress never really subsided it was one of the most rewarding processes I’ve ever been a part of. We constructed our own set with our own lighting, cameras and sound equipment that we’ve accumulated over the past three years using the knowledge we’ve absorbed from watching countless tutorials, asking friends and just experimenting on our own. We interviewed 30 athletes in three days while operating two cameras, adjusting sound and lighting and dumping data JUST US TWO KNUCKLEHEADS. But moreover, in all honesty, I seriously CANNOT WAIT to show the world the highly entertaining, visually striking and truly informative content we garnered from all our friends/athletes on the AVP Tour.
